Beware — shady business! I have been a satisfied AllState customer for home and auto in NJ for a decade. When I decided to build a second home on the Eastern Shore of VA, I asked my current AllState agent for a local referral, one of which was John Fagan, which my current agency now deeply regrets. My husband and I called for a quote before our house delivered and closed. We decided to go with another agency with a more competitive rate. We later found out the agent at John Fagan started a policy for us, without us signing anything, or our knowledge. I have been an Allstate customer for many years, holding policies for home, auto, and renters insurance. However, this year, we filed two homeowners claims, and on both occasions, the claims adjuster seemed to actively look for reasons not to fully cover our claims. The first claim involved storm damage to our roof, which resulted in water damage inside the house. This damage went unnoticed initially because it occurred within the walls and was not immediately visible. Despite this, the insurance company only covered the replacement of the shingles and refused to address the consequential interior damages, even though these damages were not apparent at the time of the event. I was very happy with Allstate when I first bought my 2021 Honda Pilot and bundled renters insurance. In June of 2025 I had an auto pay payment returned for insufficient funds and was notified by my bank before Allstate was notified. I called Allstate the very same day and informed them of the situation and made the payment over the phone with a live representative. It was downhill since then. Every month I’d receive letters and emails telling me I was missing a payment and would need to make an additional payment to get caught up to avoid cancellation. I’d make the extra payment and then the next month I’d get the same letter and email - call, make the payment - and the cycle would continue. I had been with allstates since 2022. The experience was not bad until 2025. They raise my rates for my homeowner's insurance from $900 to $1800 dollars and my car insurance from $140.00 to $250. They did not notify me of this increase until I saw the draft on my escrow. I see Allstate is facing a lot of lawsuits currently about this matter. I do not recommend.
My rating would be zero stars if that were an option. Every time I call I have an issue with the representative. She doesn’t listen and is unprofessional. The only time I didn’t have an issue with her actually doing her job is when she attempted to sell me home owners insurance. I’m not understanding why she would think I’d trust her (because she represents Allstate) with my home when she acts like her fingers are broken when it comes to my vehicles. Negative 50 out of 5 stars. It’s the ghetto - I do not recommend… If I actually spoke to someone with customer service skills my rating would be different, but she - she ain’t it.
