Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Company of Salem County

I don’t do a lot of reviews, so if I am doing one it is because a company has really had an impact on me to do so. That is the case here with Farmers of Salem. My previous company, let’s call him “Jake”, wasn’t necessary bad, but my interactions with “Jake” made me feel like just another policy number instead of an individual. Not the case at Farmers of Salem. Not only did I receive better coverage at a cheaper price on my homeowner’s insurance, but all my interactions with any representatives at the company were wonderful. My policy was explained to me in detail, options explained, and pricing breakdown explained in detail. I have and will continue to recommend them to family and friends. They may be right for you as well. Check them out for yourself, I think you will be very happy.

This company is a total scam! They are very unprofessional and unethical! They created two policies under my name without my knowledge! I wouldn’t be able to find out if I didn’t have a claim with them. When the claim was finalized they refused to send payment saying my policy does not cover the damage and decided to cancel one policy that actually does cover the damage and kept the other open. They also “mistakenly” refunded me my premium saying there are 2 active policies and then started harassing and threatening me for immediate payment! Underwrite Steve is total nightmare he doesn’t even listen and hangs up the phone on your face when he hears something he does not like. Insurance adjuster Greg Smith was fair, kept me informed and was very personable

Absolute joke of an insurance company. They denied a legitimate claim regarding my geothermal return well, due to two different "experts" being sent to my home. The first "expert" didn't even know what an open loop geothermal system was. The second "expert" knew the basics, but had no idea what certain components were in my return well. All of this runaround led them to deny my claim, because they do not cover "drinking wells". I tried explaining this over and over, and they either did not care or didn't know what they were doing. In the middle of a windstorm damage claim where I shelled out money to hire a public adjuster. So far, no good. I will update this review after the outcome of this claim is finalized. -- UPDATE 10/22/2025 -- I am suing them. Avoid at all costs.

I am currently covered by this company and the amount of hardship I have had to deal with during my first true claim and the time it has taken for anyone to do/explain/help with my issues is astronomical. You have to fight at each step to even get what you truly should be funded for. They underestimate the job to hold as much money back as possible. The adjuster used by them came out to my house and was gone in two minutes and then even skipped meeting with our public adjuster after they disrespectfully wanted to give us $5-6k under what the job actually costed to get our siding repaired. They dip and dodge the public adjuster offers to prolong and aggregate their customer.
