Dental Select

I had dental insurance with dental select on the cobra plan from my work. I got authorization for my twins to get their wisdom teeth out at the same time. Ameritas paid for one twin but not the other. This was July of 2023. My cobra with dental select ended in November of 2023. I contacted ameritas and they said I could sign up for a continuing plan if I did it before the cobra ended. I did that and made payments for the extended policy. To make a long story short ameritas is crooked. I have called numerous times. The representative said it was their fault for thinking the claim was duplicate because the birthdays were the same. Stay away! At this point I would give no stars if possible. A few years back, I thought I had found a reasonably priced dental insurance plan here. It was great for that first year. Dental Select was bought by Ameritas about the time my policy renewed the next year and I thought that had successfully renewed my policy. But a couple of months later was informed by my dentist that my claims were not getting paid. I called in and was told that due to the merger there was some issues and my policy had not renewed and was lapsed. They agreed to reinstate me and retroactively cover the claims which was great but I was annoyed that I had received no notification my policy did not renew. Horrible insurance provider. I've had this insurance for 4 years. If your company goes through Dental Select, just be prepared to pay out of pocket. Actually I would advise telling your dentist you don't have insurance so they can give you a 20% discount for paying out of pocket instead of going through the hassle with this company and getting billed a year later with the same remaining balance. They don't even provide basic cleanings. I had to pay full out of pocket as I see everybody else has. This company is a scam.

It took me 13 months to get my claim processed. And when finally my claim was approved they sent the check to my dentist office instead of to me. I paid my dental bill in full on the day of service. Now I am waiting for my dental office to send me the check. (Totally not my dental office fault, they have a process…) It has been 15 months now. Honestly they are awful at communicating and they are awful at following directions. Had to get my husband HR involved, because they completely stop communicating with me or my husband. So disappointed! 100% do not recommend this insurance. I would not even give them a star, if I did not have too. So happy my husband work finally got a new and better insurance. I want to give them a good review, but my experience doesn't allow me to. I have had a frustrating time with them. They repeatedly deny a claim. I have been paying for dental insurance every month and when I call them on the phone they repeatedly tell me that the claim will be approved. I have spent 7-8 hours on the phone with them over the last 4 months.
