Trupanion

I cannot begin to express my disappointment in Trupanion. We have regularly paid our premiums for 8 years and when we finally made a claim, we were sorely disappointed in how it was handled. I will say this, their customer service reps are great, but that doesn’t help when whoever handles the claims is not. We have a $1000 deductible, so we didn't file anything until our dog’s procedure was complete. He had a cyst above his tail that had to be removed. He is an 8 year old Great Dane. When doing the exam to talk about removing the cyst, the vet heard a slight heart mumer. Because he was being put under, we were told they needed to check his heart first, which they did. A million times five stars! We have four dogs and for years only paid premiums and had no claims. AND THEN. One of our precious boys developed cancer in one of his paws. And a few months later, in another one of his paws. Trupanion to the rescue. In the middle of those 2 events, one of our frenchies had to have very serious spinal surgery...would have cost us over 12,000.00 and ended up costing us less than 4000.00. We have a 1000.00 deductible which is really fine since you can't use it for routine things and hopefully that is all you're going to get. But in the crisis moments it's sure great to have a company with EASY online forms and who process claims quickly and fairly. I got Trupanion for my buddy Dan years ago. I was super worried that my puppy was going to eat a sock and need surgery or something crazy. After he grew out of that phase, I kept it just in case he needed it. Dan was diagnosed with cancer last year. Because of our Trupanion policy, we were able to get him the best care hassle free. Trupanion was so easy to work with. Unfortunately, Dan passed away this weekend. But because of Trupanion, we know we did everything we could. I will 100% get a policy on any future pet and recommend it highly to friends and family. Thank you Trupanion.

Today was the first time I was able to use my pet insurance, and the experience was incredibly smooth and convenient. I honestly didn’t expect Trupanion to make the process this easy for customers. I didn’t have to worry about paying everything upfront because the insurance paid the hospital directly, which gave me so much peace of mind. Choosing Trupanion was definitely the right decision for me and my dog.

If I could switch pet insurance providers, I would in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, because my cat is almost 15, switching now would mean everything would be considered a pre-existing condition. Trupanion has been extremely difficult to deal with. Filing and appealing claims is frustrating, and their “per-condition deductible” is misleading. They frequently re-code related conditions as new ones, restarting the deductible so you never actually reach it—despite paying thousands of dollars in premiums over the years. Most of my claims are denied as “pre-existing.” One example: years before coverage, I once mentioned to a vet that my cat snores. Much later, after she became ill and X-rays confirmed asthma, Trupanion denied the claim because snoring appeared in old notes. Snoring is not a diag
