The Hartford

Overpriced and shady business practices. They didn't tell us we had a refund coming after canceling our policy - instead, they used our refund to pay themselves to extend our policy that we canceled. Hartford finally canceled the policy (for real this time!) when they had used up all of the refund amount. Getting a hold of them is next to impossible. They bury their phone number and don't have an email that responds to customers. If you do eventually get them on the phone they have to transfer you through a series of passive/aggressive agents that can't help.

Slow claims processing and poor and very unprofessional customer service. I hate my spouse's employer chose Hartford for our ancillary plans. A claim open since 1st of November they paid 1 last week and the other is still pending when they both were submitted on the same date, just horrible correspondence. On the phone waiting over 10mins for a customer service rep is unacceptable. Run from this company.

Do not waste your time or money. You paid lots of money for years and when you have a claim they figure out the way to not renew your insurance. This is why they have very bad reviews.

I agree with the "run, don't walk away from this company". Horrible customer service, or lack there of. They don't read letter or respond and instead send to you to collections when you never renewed coverage. Very disappointed. I went with biBerk, which is more affordable for the same coverage.

Finally decided to get a car after 2 1/2 years of taking the bus and train to work every day. Filled out my information with AARP/The Hartford because I'm 54 years old. I was denied because of my "Lapse" in coverage!! Well, I haven't had a car in 2 1/2 years , but they didn't bother asking why I haven't had insurance. Works out anyway, after I saw their reviews, I consider myself lucky. Update: 6 days later I received a letter stating I was denied because of a lapse in my insurance. Makes me wonder how much business this company has lost due to one faulty question on the application.
