I am a BCBS Global customer. Beware that if you need emergency medical care abroad (the whole point of the plan I purchased), they will make you pay for your expenses upfront and will drag their feet on processing your claim. I had to pay $30,000 USD upfront, even though I have insurance. And they originally said they would process my claim in 10-15 business days. It has now been 17 & they’re telling me it’ll now be 45-50 days?!? Plus another 45-50 for them to payout (if they do at all). I’m sure once we hit 50 days, they’ll move the goal posts again. This is creating financial hardship for me, which totally defeats the purpose of having insurance! On top of that, they make all claims (including small ones) hard to submit. Do NOT buy the Trekker policy. It is a scam. They won’t pay for medical services done in a foreign country. Your claim will be denied on the basis that you didn’t go back to the US for treatment. It is called travel insurance. However, the insurance company that means you have to travel back to the US for heart medicines, cardiologists visits, tests, and procedures. This is a ridiculous. They will sit on your claim forever when you appeal the denial.

Buyer beware!! Worst experience I have ever had with insurance provider. We were sent by our in-network provider to an affiliate of another in-network provider that turned out to be out of network (Our mistake). We therefore had to pay out for out of network services but because the provider charge significantly higher than market fees, BCBS would not allow the charges that we paid out of pocket to go against our out of pocket maximum. We feel betrayed by BCBS.

This is the greatest health and dental insurance company we have ever had in our lives. My spouse was employed overseas & the overseas company he worked for used BCBS Global (formerly GeoBlue). From coverage to customer service I cannot praise them enough for the quality we have always been provided the last 5 years. We understand they are an overseas providers and primarily an overseas travel agency. I wish we could continue with them under an individual plan and a Medicare advantage plan. When we ever travel out of the states I will not hesitate to use their company for coverage.

BCBS offers decent prices for travel health insurance when you don’t need other perks such as travel cancellation, delays etc. However, when you try to cancel a policy they make you email them and they take their time responding. They don’t offer an option to cancel over the phone I don’t normally trust businesses that do this. It reminds me of gym memberships cancellation nightmare. We’re in 2025, they should offer a way to cancel a policy online or at least over the phone. Also, I haven’t had to file a claim with them so I can’t comment on that part.
