I recently had a claim involving my 2020 Toyota 4Runner with only 63,000 miles, and I was shocked to be charged a betterment fee for the exhaust system. Exhaust systems on 4Runners are stainless steel and designed to last well over 150,000–200,000 miles, so applying betterment on a five-year-old vehicle makes no sense and is not consistent with industry standards. I asked for documentation showing any pre-existing wear, rust, or damage that justified depreciation, but none was provided. Instead, the fee felt arbitrary and unfair — especially considering Kansas insurance rules require betterment to be reasonable and supported by evidence. I expected a fair and transparent claims process, but this experience has been extremely frustrating. I hope the company reviews how these decisions are
