I was in an accident with a guy that was insured with Farm Bureau. I went out to the Farm Bureau Claims Center and was told that my car would be totaled, even though only the back door was damaged. (The guy went though a stop sign and t-boned me.) Then Farm Bureau made me an offer of only $7500 for my car. My car is a 2012 Chevy Impala and the Blue Book value is $14,993 if the car is in very good condition. Since I thought I should at least get $10,000 for my car, I asked why the offer was so low. The claims adjuster stated I was partially at fault for the accident. Farm Bureau Insurance, based in West Des Moines, used to insure my home. Even though the only claim I had on my home was paid by my neighbor's insurance company (it was a tree branch from my neighbor's tree that fell on my house during a storm), Farm Bureau cancelled my homeowners insurance because I now lived in a "high risk area". Every "area" has trees and thunderstorms, so why did my "area" suddenly become high risk after a thunderstorm?
