Delta Dental of Iowa

We moved in summer and the coverage ended on 7/31. We erroneously paid till October and sent several requests to be reimbursed. Despite an acknowledgment of our requests, we did not receive any response. Instead, we received a termination notice from non-payment. When we called, we were told that the coverage had not ended (clearly incorrect when checking the healthcare markets website). TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE! Incompetent without any appreciation for customers whatsoever.

Got a plan for my partner to get some wisdom teeth removed, the customer service person told me that it would be about 75% covered and that the dentist I was working with accepted them, later went to said dentist, turns out they do not actually accept them, went to cancel the insurance and thought it was no big issue, no emails, phone calls or texts, well 2 months past and suddenly they withdrew 130$ from my account and when I called them they basically responded with “well we don’t remember getting that call so we can’t return ur money”. Sad to say this is how a lot of companies are nowadays but it sucks cause 130$ is definitely not enough to take them to court regardless if I have the call log that shows I called them previously to cancel.

I have had Delta Dental for 20 years. The benefits have been great. They have several different plans to choose from. I was lucky enough to get it through my employer and was able to continue with it in my retirement benefits. Special shout out to Megan from the customer service call center! Megan is a perfect representative of your insurance company! Knowledgeable, and also very pleasant to work with.

I never realized what a rip off this insurance is to have until my dentist stopped accepting them, being the reason that they will not pay 100% for anything that they state that they pay 100% of. Every dentist in my area has stopped accepting delta insurance for the same reasoning. So now I have to pay for my teeth cleanings or anything else that I have done, Delta Dental sends me a check covering part of my “100% covered” cleaning but the check miraculously gets “lost” in the mail and I never receive it then I call to request a new check and I am told I have to wait 30 more days to request another check because it “might” come. Then 3 months later I actually get paid back part of my “100% covered” service. Which has happened to be more than once now! They sure never wait to take my money

Delta Dental of Iowa is absolutely garbage! They have ridiculous long waiting periods before coverage kicks in. If you need anything major done, you’re expected to wait a year before insurance will pay their portion. By the time the wait period is over, my dental needs will be more critical than what they are now. They’ve also been unresponsive to my emails asking about the waiting periods. I’m canceling my coverage and will be looking for better, more responsive dental insurance provider. Wish I could’ve given zero or negative stars!
