Losing money on my fixed index annuity because of fees. Making big business real cher while assuring myself a dismal retirement. Trying to decide if it worth taking a hit on early withdrawal or wait out surrender fee.

Do not buy these products. While you would think that their annuity beneficiary system would be optimized for family disputes, nothing could be further from the truth. First of all the salesman who sell these products get paid huge commissions. Secondly, in my own personal experience, one of my family members was removed as a beneficiary from my mother's a annuity contract. She filled out all the required paperwork and sent it in. After passing when my sister learned she was removed, she challenged the document claiming it was forged. All American equity had to do was require a notarized beneficiary change form and there would be no dispute. However when American equity received the challenge, rather than stand behind their own process, their own forms, they chose instead to drop the entir

My mother was sold an annuity from American Equity with guaranteed monthly payouts for 10 years. Their sales rep conveniently forgot to mentioned she would have to be 114 before those payments could start. This company preys on the elderly.

Rocky Campbell of Hybrid Financial LLC of Fort Worth recommended American Equity Assetshield 5 Fixed Index Annuity to us on 2/9/22. Our experience: $120K invested over 2 years returned $421.20. Yes, 0.00351% yield. NOT EVEN 1% yield. We would have been better of leaving the money in the bank. Market has been up 25+%, since our anniversary date... BEWARE OF THE CAP AND PARTICIPATION RATE ON THESE FIXED INDEXED ANNUITY! Reallocation to fixed interest rate is 1.5%, current cap is 5.5%, participation rate is 40%. This is the worst performing annuity in our portfolio! We have 7 fixed annuities and 3 fixed indexed annuities with other issuers. Do not believe in all the 1 review posters with the 5 star ratings! Was young and dumb. Had an annuity from American Equity for over a decade maybe longer. I can tell you first hand you will get no where near the returns your broker tells you could get. Sure you don’t lose your capital (except when you withdraw early, very high fees) but you don’t make much either. Their management fees are also expensive.
