NALC Health Benefit Plan

I've been an NALC High Option member, both as a Federal employee and now in retirement, for 20 years. Many times I've referred to their coverage as "heaven". But... they have a new president, Stephanie Stewart, and I can see the tell-tale signs that she may be penny wise and pound foolish. She's switched us from a durable plastic membership card to a paper card – to save what – a penny? And she's changed the call-director around so that it takes forever to get to the option you need – my time is valuable too Ms. Stewart... Fortunately for NALC the customer service old-timers are fantastic! Not 5 stars – five million stars. Go USPS!

I have had the NALC High Option Plan since 2009 and have had a good experience. I really appreciate the ability to message their customer service team directly. Anytime I request assistance, I receive a response within 24 hours. It’s been incredibly helpful for addressing questions and resolving claim issues without the hassle of waiting on hold or over the phone.

Do NOT recommend. Not understanding why the premium is expensive and they do not cover anything on the value plan! The HRA is a joke. Customer service is a joke.

They cancelled my insurance and nobody I talk with has any idea why. I’ve been trying to get it back for 4 months with no success.

When I retired my benefits union rep said "Keep your union NALC health plan (I have the High Option). They pay whatever Medicare doesn't." Not true. I've had bills, an annual physical denied until I phoned them, I'm am so not impressed. My mother was charged nothing with her Medicare Advantage C plan and was so well cared for. So, I've switched to a Medicare Advantage C Plan. Now I'll be able to do a nice vacation every year with the anticipated savings.
